Commitment to achieving Net Zero

George Beattie & sons understands that climate change is the most important issue of our lifetime and the single greatest threat to our planet. The urgency to address the issue is underscored by the latest report from the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which provides a thorough examination of the physical science of climate change.

As part of our commitment to decarbonise our operations, we are tackling all aspects of our services to the industry and working with our supply chain to create the best solutions to offer to our clients.

This carbon reduction plan provides an overview of Demolition Services’ carbon performance and a strategy of how we will tackle each aspect of our organisation and our client offering, to find innovative solutions to achieve our targets, which provide focus and direction to achieve our long-term 2040 Net Zero target.

George Beattie & sons is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040.

What is my Carbon Footprint made of? Carbon emissions are divided into three different scopes:

Scope 1. All direct emissions from the activities of an organisation or under their control (fuel combustion on-site, fleet vehicles, and air-conditioning leaks).

Scope 2. Emissions created during the production of the energy purchased and used by the organisation (UK electricity, heat and steam).

Scope 3. All other indirect emissions from activities of the organisation originated in sources that they do not own or control (business travel, procurement, waste, and water).

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Emissions reduction targets

To minimize our carbon footprint consideration is given to distances from Site of waste facilities, suppliers and personnel;

in addition, our welfare facilities are selected for their low carbon footprint/Eco units and can be towed to site cutting down on larger transport by Hiab/lorry they also have solar panels fitted to the roof and integrated eco generator which automatically switches on when it is needed to power an appliance or charge the battery then shuts off automatically when not required saving fuel consumption and cutting down on carbon emissions.

Our crusher has the latest technology, it has a high efficiency direct drive and its engine runs at a constant low engine RPM resulting in excellent fuel consumption, efficiency and low noise emissions.
Our excavators are all within 3 years old and fitted with DEF/Adblue system which breaks the exhaust gasses down into harmless elements before being expelled from the plant, they are fitted with eco gauges allowing the operator to monitor fuel consumption in real time or review historical data, along with the variable power control improving fuel efficiency this cuts down on the machines emissions whilst still ensuring highest performance.

Our road vehicles are all within 3 years old and fitted with advanced emissions control systems which help the vehicles meet the latest euro 6 exhaust gas regulations, the DEF/Adblue system fitted to all our vehicles removes the polluting oxides of the exhaust gasses turning them into harmless water and nitrogen. . RDF plant is being implemented towards our zero waste-to-landfill by 2022. Power tools are all electric.

Recycling on site is at source and as which we have invested in our screeners and crusher’s to reduce our footprint
Our office has moved from fossil fuels heating to a ground source heat pump and upgraded all our lighting to LED, further insulation has reduced our heating costs.

Our office has been digitalised thus printing has been eliminated due to web based systems we are now a paperless office.

Our office and yard shed have solar panels installed reducing our energy footpring significantly
Use of public transport is encouraged and adopted, Cycle to Work scheme in active.
We have invested in Prime high performance cutting equipment utilising High frequency currency eliminating the need for diesel or petrol hand tools while increasing performance and eliminating carbon output.

We have invested in a selection of Husqvarna DXR Demolition robot excavators which are 3 phase electric excavators allowing us to carry out demolition works remotely removing manual handling, HAVS, carbon output and reducing timescales.

Recording carbon

All our plant is fitted with trackers which provide ourselves with reports of Run time against fuel consumption and all fuel for sites is bought through our main office and recorded against each site to allow carbon to be recorded.
All our work vehicles have trackers installed allowing reports for mileage against fuel consumption to be obtained, all vehicles refuel either at our main office or via fuel cards allowing ourselves to record fuel consumption against each vehicle.

Electricity, gas and water consumption is recorded monthly. All this information is collated and set against the appropriate emission factor against each emission source in order to calculate the tonnes of CO2 this can be collated per project and annually for our business this allows us to compare to other organisations and set targets.

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 1100 tCO2e by 2030. This is a reduction of  to be confirmed%

Progress against these targets will be shown in a graph following results from our 2026 monitoring

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or will be implemented against our 2026 baseline.

Future carbon reduction initiatives

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

fully recording our carbon emissions

implementing electric vehicles to our fleet

the switching of site fuel from Diesel to HVO
